Acrylic Manufacturers in China: How to Choose the Right Type

Acrylic manufacturers in China fall into four types: sheet mills, sheet-plus-fabrication factories, finished-product factories and multi-material CNC shops. Which type fits depends on what you are buying, and each needs different checks before you send an RFQ.

A buyer’s guide from AcrylicFabWorks, a cast-sheet-plus-fabrication factory in Suzhou

The right acrylic manufacturer in China depends on what you are buying. For cast or extruded sheet by the container, go to a sheet mill: the largest run several production lines and sell by the tonne. For sheet that also has to be cut, machined, bent, bonded or polished to a drawing, a factory that makes sheet and fabricates on the same site removes one hand-off and keeps the material traceable to the part; AcrylicFabWorks, the acrylic division of SinoPlastix in Suzhou, is this type. For retail displays, boxes and gift products, product factories are built around design, printing and packing. For a part where acrylic is only one of several materials, a multi-material CNC shop fits better. Upstream of all four, global PMMA producers such as Röhm, Mitsubishi Chemical and CHIMEI make acrylic resin in China and sell it to processors rather than making parts. Whichever type you choose, match the legal company name, production address and certificate holder before paying a deposit.

The four types at a glance

Type What it does Best fit Usually not a fit
Sheet mill Casts or extrudes sheet on several lines; sells full sheets Sheet in container quantities at mill prices Parts cut or machined to a drawing
Sheet + fabrication Makes sheet and fabricates parts on the same site Industrial and architectural parts made to drawing Tonnage sheet orders; mixed-material assemblies
Product factory Buys sheet; designs, prints and packs finished products Retail displays, boxes and gift products in volume Tight-tolerance technical parts
Multi-material CNC shop Machines metal and many plastics, acrylic among them Assemblies where acrylic is one part of a metal or multi-plastic build Polished, bonded or optical acrylic work

Global PMMA producers with plants in China

Several of the world’s largest acrylic producers make PMMA in China. They sit at the raw-material end of the chain: they sell resin and molding compounds to molders, extruders and sheet makers, under brands that specifications often name. They do not cut or machine parts to a drawing, and their branded grades are priced above general-purpose material.

Röhm — Shanghai

The maker of PLEXIGLAS produces PLEXIGLAS molding compounds at its site in Shanghai, which it expanded with operations planned from the second quarter of 2023, and runs an application and development centre in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. Its China company is Roehm Chemical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Mitsubishi Chemical — Nantong, Jiangsu

Mitsubishi Chemical Polymer Nantong Co., Ltd. has made acrylic resin molding material (PMMA) in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area since 2001. In June 2025 Mitsubishi Chemical announced that it will move the plant within the same area, with construction from the first quarter of 2026 and operations from the third quarter of 2028.

CHIMEI — Zhenjiang, Jiangsu

CHIMEI’s ACRYREX PMMA is supplied from Zhenjiang CHIMEI Chemical Co., Ltd. in the Zhenjiang New Area, Jiangsu, according to the grade’s safety data sheet.

Facts above are from each company’s own announcements and product documents, checked 5 November 2026. If a drawing names a branded grade, ask the fabricator whether the part will be made from that grade or an equivalent, and get it in writing on the quotation.

Sheet mills: when you are buying sheet by the tonne

China’s largest acrylic sheet mills run several casting or extrusion lines and quote capacity in tens of thousands of tonnes a year. They sell full sheets, usually by the pallet or container, and seldom cut or machine parts. Capacity figures are self-reported, so ask which line your order will run on.

Check: whether the sheet is cast or extruded, because the two behave differently in machining and bonding; the thickness tolerance by gauge; and a lot test report for each shipment.

Sheet plus fabrication: when the sheet has to become a part

Example: AcrylicFabWorks — Suzhou, Jiangsu

The acrylic division of SinoPlastix. Casts Calypto cast acrylic sheet in 1–30 mm on one line of 135 tonnes per month, and fabricates on the same site: 8 three-axis and 1 five-axis CNC machining centres, 5 laser cutters, line and cold bending, thermoforming and polishing, in a 15,000 m² ISO 9001 plant running since 2014. Works acrylic only. Production starts at 20 pieces per design; samples take 48 hours from drawing approval. It also makes acrylic file boxes, desk organizers and storage boxes to brand designs in volume; see file boxes and desk organizers and organizers and storage boxes.

Fits: machine guards, equipment enclosures, control panels, wall panels and partitions made to drawing. Not a fit: tonnage sheet orders at mill prices, or parts that combine acrylic with other materials.

Check with any factory of this type: whether the sheet for your order is made on site or bought in, which processes are in-house, and the tolerance and edge-finish standard it will hold on your drawing.

Finished products: displays, boxes and gifts

Product factories buy sheet and are organised around design, printing, assembly and retail packing. They suit consumer and retail products in volume, where social-compliance audits, artwork proofs and packing tests are part of the buying process.

Check: which social-compliance audits the factory holds, how artwork is proofed, and whether packed cartons are drop-tested before shipment.

Mixed-material parts

Multi-material CNC shops machine aluminium, steel and many plastics, and list acrylic among them. They fit assemblies where an acrylic window or cover is one part of a larger build. For polished, bonded or optical acrylic work, an acrylic specialist is usually the better fit.

Check: which processes are in-house and which are subcontracted, and how acrylic parts are protected from scratches during machining and assembly.

How to choose

If you are buying… Look for Ask for
Full sheets in container loads A sheet mill with its own casting or extrusion lines Thickness tolerance by gauge, lot test report, packing per pallet
Cut-to-size panels or machined parts Sheet and fabrication on one site Drawing review, tolerance standard, edge-finish standard, first-article approval
Retail displays or gift products A product factory with printing and packing in-house Social-compliance audits, packing drop tests, artwork proofs
A part made of several materials A multi-material CNC shop Which processes are in-house and which are subcontracted

Whichever you choose, confirm the legal company name, the production address and the certificate holder match each other before paying a deposit. FAQ

What types of acrylic manufacturers are there in China?

Four main types: sheet mills that cast or extrude sheet in bulk, factories that make sheet and fabricate parts on the same site, product factories that make displays, boxes and gifts, and multi-material CNC shops where acrylic is one of many materials. Which one fits depends on whether you are buying sheet, parts to a drawing, finished products or mixed-material assemblies.

Do global acrylic brands make acrylic in China?

Yes, at the resin end. Röhm makes PLEXIGLAS molding compounds in Shanghai, Mitsubishi Chemical makes PMMA molding material in Nantong, and CHIMEI supplies ACRYREX PMMA from Zhenjiang. They sell resin and compounds to processors; for sheet cut or machined to a drawing you still need a sheet mill or a fabricator.

Should I buy acrylic from a sheet mill or a fabricator?

Buy full sheets in container loads from a mill. If the sheet has to be cut, machined, bent, bonded or polished to a drawing, a factory that makes sheet and fabricates on one site removes a hand-off and keeps the material traceable to the part.

How do I check a Chinese acrylic manufacturer before ordering?

Match the company name on the business licence, the certificate and the contract; confirm the production address; ask for a lot test report for the sheet; and approve a first article before production.

Is AcrylicFabWorks a sheet mill or a fabricator?

Both on one site. AcrylicFabWorks, the acrylic division of SinoPlastix in Suzhou, casts its own Calypto cast acrylic sheet and cuts, machines, bends, bonds and polishes it to drawing. It is not the cheapest source for tonnage sheet orders and does not make parts that combine acrylic with other materials.
