Acrylic control panels are CNC-machined PMMA fascias used as front panels, instrument covers and HMI windows on equipment. Machined from 2–12 mm cast acrylic, they combine precise cutouts for switches and displays (typically ±0.1 mm) with options metal panels can’t match: full transparency, integral backlighting, and laser-engraved legends that never wear off.

Why acrylic over metal or PC fascias

  • Legibility: engraved or subsurface-printed legends can’t rub off like screen-printed metal
  • Backlighting: LED edge or back lighting turns the panel itself into the indicator
  • Cost at low volume: no tooling — CNC direct from CAD, so revision B costs the same as revision A
  • Daily-touch durability: scratch resistance beats uncoated polycarbonate

FAQ

What tolerance can you hold on switch and display cutouts?

±0.1 mm standard, ±0.05 mm on critical dimensions with the 5-axis machining center. Specify clearance per your component datasheets; we machine to the drawing.

Can text and scales be engraved so they won't wear off?

Yes. Laser engraving cuts into the material itself; with optional paint fill the legend is permanent and high-contrast. For backlit panels we engrave from the rear face so the front stays smooth.

Do you supply panels with fasteners installed?

Yes — threaded brass inserts, bonded standoffs and countersunk holes are all done in-factory.

Can you match a tint to our display?

We stock standard grey/bronze smoked grades and source specific tints per project. Send your display model and we’ll recommend a transmission level.

What tolerance applies to switch and display openings?

Switch and display openings run to General tolerances per GB/T 1804-2000 / ISO 2768 by size span at ±0.1 mm typical, and drawing-flagged critical dimensions are confirmed at ±0.05 mm by first-article inspection.

Can you engrave and backlight acrylic fascias?

Yes: engraved labels can be back-filled, and backlight uniformity is evaluated per application against LED spacing, thickness and grade rather than guaranteed.

Which drawing formats do you accept for fascias?

Drawings accepted as STEP/DWG/DXF/PDF/sketches, and a manufacturing drawing is drafted from a sketch so switch positions are agreed before production.

What surface finish do fascia panels get?

Fascia edges are polished and the A face follows Appearance described as clear / glass-clear / optically clear, judged against the approved master sample with B-face marks allowed per the drawing.

Can fascias ship with the enclosure?

Fascias can be bonded or fitted to enclosures in-factory; tell us the assembly and hardware requirements and they are written into the quote.

Which acrylic suits engraved and backlit control panel fascias?

Cast acrylic recommended for machining-heavy parts, extruded for flat sheet: machined fascias with many cutouts are quoted in cast, while simple flat covers can run in extruded sheet.

Tolerance bands for openings

Switch and indicator openings follow General tolerances per GB/T 1804-2000 / ISO 2768 depending on size span; Machined features to ±0.1 mm (holes and machined features) apply, and Critical dimensions on the 5-axis CNC to ±0.05 mm are verified at first article per drawing.

Appearance for the fascia A face

The fascia A face follows Appearance described as clear / glass-clear / optically clear judged against the approved master sample, with the tightest scratch and haze criteria.

Annealing and crazing risk

Machined parts annealed with the cast-acrylic industry–standard schedule, and control-panel facias are stress-relieved with this cycle after machining before engraving and polishing; temperature and soak parameters are confirmed per grade, not published. Annealing reduces but does not eliminate crazing risk near screws, inserts or solvent-based graphics.

Bonded joints and seams
