Clear cast sheet — thickness is chosen before anything is cut

Our cast acrylic sheet is produced in metric thicknesses from 1 to 30 mm for clear sheet and 2 to 30 mm for coloured, black, white and frosted grades. Full sheets are 1220 × 2440 mm (the 4 × 8 ft size, also written 48 × 96 in), 2050 × 3050 mm and 2000 × 1000 mm. A 1220 × 2440 mm sheet weighs about 3.5 kg for every millimetre of thickness, so a 6 mm sheet is roughly 21 kg and a 10 mm sheet roughly 35 kg.

Full sheet sizes

Standard acrylic sheet sizes

Size (mm) Imperial Grades
1220 × 2440 4 × 8 ft (48 × 96 in) All grades, incl. double-sided frost
2050 × 3050 6.7 × 10 ft Clear, black, white, single-sided frost
2000 × 1000 6.6 × 3.3 ft Confirmed in the quotation

Smaller sizes such as 12 × 12 in, 18 × 24 in or 24 × 48 in are cut from full sheets rather than cast to size. See acrylic cut to size.

Imperial callouts

Imperial acrylic thickness and the metric sheet to ask for

Imperial Exact (mm) Closest metric sheet
1/16 in 1.59 1.5 mm
1/8 in 3.18 3 mm
3/16 in 4.76 5 mm
1/4 in 6.35 6 mm
3/8 in 9.53 10 mm
1/2 in 12.70 12 mm
5/8 in 15.88 15 or 16 mm
3/4 in 19.05 20 mm
1 in 25.40 25 mm
1 1/4 in 31.75 Above our 30 mm sheet range

Metric and imperial sheets are not interchangeable where a part fits into a slot, frame or channel. If your drawing is in inches, tell us which dimension is critical and we confirm the thickness against it before cutting.

Choosing a thickness

What thickness buyers usually start from

  • 2–3 mm. Display covers, sign faces, picture glazing and small boxes, where the panel is supported on its edges.
  • 5–6 mm. Shelves, small machine guards, partitions and countertop displays with short spans.
  • 8–12 mm. Larger guards and screens, table tops, free-standing panels and parts that take fixings near the edge.
  • 15–30 mm. Machined blocks, bases, thick display plinths and parts that need depth for pockets, threads or polished edges.

Mid thickness

Thick sheet and block

These are starting points, not ratings. Span, load, fixing method and temperature decide the final thickness — our acrylic sheet thickness guide and machine guard thickness article go into the detail, and we check it at drawing review.

Evidence and verification

  • Weights are calculated at nominal thickness from the typical density of cast PMMA (1.19 g/cm³); packed weight is stated in the quotation.

FAQ

Questions about acrylic sheet thickness and size

What is a 4 × 8 acrylic sheet in millimetres?

1220 × 2440 mm. It is the most common full-sheet size and is available in every grade we supply, including double-sided frosted sheet.

What thickness range do you supply?

Clear cast sheet from 1 to 30 mm; coloured, black, white and frosted grades from 2 to 30 mm. Fabricated parts can be machined from material up to 100 mm thick.

Is 1/4 inch acrylic the same as 6 mm?

Close but not identical: 1/4 in is 6.35 mm. For most panels 6 mm is the sheet to ask for; where the part sits in a channel or frame, tell us the critical dimension.

How much does a 4 × 8 acrylic sheet weigh?

About 3.5 kg per millimetre of thickness: roughly 10.6 kg at 3 mm, 21.3 kg at 6 mm and 35.4 kg at 10 mm, before packing.

Can you supply sizes smaller than a full sheet?

Yes. Smaller panels such as 12 × 12 in or 24 × 48 in are cut from full sheets to your list, with the edge finish you specify.
