Buying acrylic sheet or fabricated acrylic parts from China for delivery in India: importer registration, duties and trade-remedy checks, ports, and how to compare a Chinese quote with local supply.

Reply within 12 hours · production from 20 pieces per design

Importing acrylic from China into India depends on four checks. The importer needs an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) from the DGFT. A customs broker should confirm the classification and the full duty: basic customs duty plus IGST, and whether any anti-dumping duty or BIS quality-control order applies to the exact product. India has used both on various plastic products, and the rules change. Compare the landed cost at your site with local supply, not the Chinese factory price. And specify the sheet in full (cast or extruded, grade, thickness, size, colour), because imported sheet and local stock are often quoted on different grades.

Import checklist

Item Why it matters Who handles it
IEC (Importer Exporter Code) Required to import into India Importer, from the DGFT
Classification Sets the duty; PMMA sheet usually falls under 3920 51, finished articles often under 3926 90 Customs broker
Basic customs duty and IGST Part of the landed cost Customs broker
Anti-dumping duty or BIS order Can add significant cost or block clearance for some products Broker, checked for the exact product before ordering
Bill of entry and documents Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading Broker, using our shipping documents

This page is a planning checklist, not customs advice. Your broker’s classification and the rules in force on the date of import decide the cost.

Freight, climate and sites

  • Ports. Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mundra on the west coast and Chennai on the east handle most container freight from China. Name the delivery city so the quote covers the inland leg.
  • Heat and sun. Outdoor panels in Indian summers run hot, and dark tints run hotter. Allow for thermal movement and keep panels below the continuous service limit of about 80 °C; see acrylic temperature limits.
  • Protective film. Remove film soon after installation. Film left on in strong sun can bond to the surface.
  • Freight is volume. Cut panels can cost less to ship than full sheets with offcuts.

When sourcing from China makes sense for Indian buyers

Imported sheet rarely wins on commodity clear sheet once duty and freight are added. It is more often worth it for fabricated parts, where cutting, machining, bending, bonding and polishing are done in one place, and for repeat production from a fixed drawing. It can also suit specifications that call for cast sheet or a named brand. AcrylicFabWorks, the acrylic division of SinoPlastix, supplies Calypto cast acrylic sheet and fabricated parts from one ISO 9001-certified plant in Suzhou, China. Full sheets are quoted from 10 sheets; parts from 20 pieces per design. Samples take 48 hours and production 7 days from drawing approval. We have no Indian office or installation team, and we work in acrylic only.

India has applied anti-dumping duties to various plastic products, and they change. Ask your broker to check the exact product and origin before you order.
