For acrylic from China into Germany or another EU country, sort out five points before ordering. Specify the sheet by standard, for example cast PMMA to DIN EN ISO 7823-1, rather than by a trade name such as “Plexiglas”. If the acrylic is used in a building, check the reaction-to-fire class the project requires under EN 13501-1; standard acrylic does not reach the high classes. As the importer you are responsible under REACH for passing on information about any substance of very high concern above 0.1% in the article, so ask the supplier for a declaration. Make sure you have an EU EORI number. And ask a customs broker to confirm the CN code, the duty and import VAT before the order ships.

Customs, freight and paperwork
- EORI. The importer of record needs an EU EORI number.
- CN code and duty. PMMA sheet usually falls under CN 3920 51, finished acrylic articles often under 3926 90. Your broker confirms the code and the rate.
- Import VAT. Due on entry, usually recoverable for VAT-registered businesses.
- Ports. Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Antwerp handle most container freight from China into Germany and neighbouring countries. Name the delivery address so the quote covers the last leg.
- Incoterms. Compare FOB and DDP quotes on the same basis; see landed cost of shipping acrylic from China.

FAQ
Is Plexiglas the same as acrylic?
Yes. Plexiglas is a trade name for acrylic (PMMA) sheet, and “Acrylglas” is the common German word. Specify cast or extruded, grade and thickness on the order.
What does an EU importer of acrylic from China need?
An EU EORI number, the CN code and duty confirmed by a broker, import VAT, and supplier declarations for REACH and, where relevant, RoHS or food contact.
Which fire class does acrylic have in the EU?
It depends on the grade and thickness. Standard acrylic does not reach the higher EN 13501-1 classes, so confirm the class for the exact grade before using it in a building.
